ICSL’s Highest Flyers: Greatest Moments

FNL_Week_4-20

Johannesburg — The ICSL is blessed with the greatest scoring talent in South Africa and we have been witness to some special scoring moments from Mzansi’s highest flyers. We assess some of these moments in our list of the top performances and performers in league history.

1. Christian Kabasele (BWA) – 53pts, Most points scored in a game

26 Jan 2014 vs Eagles – Dagger tore apart the Eagles on the opening day of the 2014 season immediately setting the standard for expected performances for anyone looking to take the scoring crown. He scored 23 in the first quarter and finished the game with 9 made three pointers which remains an ICSL record. The performance probably explains the huge demand for his services that led to his subsequent trade to Phenoms before the trade deadline.

2. Isaac Katwe (Phenoms) – 26pts, Most points in a quarter

16 Mar 2014 vs BWA – LK4 devastated BWA in this completely lopsided contest. The Phenoms hitman finished with a game high 45 points and was completely unplayable all night long.

3. Neo Mothiba (Jozi Nuggets) – 38pts, Most points in a playoff game

10 Apr 2014 vs Wits – The Matrix was a one man wrecking crew in this playoff game. Whilst he received special attention throughout the game there appeared no solution that would curb his scoring rate. The performance ranks as one of the greatest single player performances in the history of the league especially taking into account the magnitude of the game.

4. Neo Mothiba (Jozi Nuggets) – 33.5ppg, Highest scoring average in playoff history (min 2)

The Matrix is all around us. Mothiba lives up to his name appearing at the top of every scoring list for a reason. The superstar player has lived up to his billing as one of the games greatest, consistently performing when it counts the most. Inexplicably and sadly Mothiba has never won a playoff game. Neither his 38 against Wits nor his 29 versus Goodfellas in the 2013 edition were good enough to give him victory. Can 2015 tell a different story?

5. Quintin Denyssen (Goodfellas) – 27.5ppg, Highest scoring average in finals history

2 Finals. 2 Championships. GOAT
